The View Hotel can claim to be something genuinely different and unique in Oman. Situated on the edge of a valley in the Jebal Akhdar area of the Hajar Mountains, the property underwent a complete renovation in late 2013. What was once a boutique campsite of just 15 tents is now a fully fledged hillside resort. Accommodation is split between Superior and Premier rooms – the only difference being that the latter have the luxury of being on the front row, with unadulterated views across the valley below.

What has not changed since renovation is the staggering panorama into the Al Hamra Valley: one of the most amazing hotel positions in the region. You can also hike straight out from the hotel’s front door, and the staff are particularly well-known for being helpful in organising guided excursions or pointing you in the right direction for an independent walk. As much of the construction as possible has been done with local materials and there is a small kitchen garden to supply the on-site restaurant, so The View can boast good green credentials compared to many hotels in Oman. Guests are advised that the hotel currently does not serve alcohol.
