The coastline of Musandam is a major part of the draw of this quirky peninsula. A dhow cruise will take you up narrow inlets reminiscent of Norweigan fjords to swim in empty, clear waters and enjoy the company of the local dolphins. You may get to see Telegraph Island. Tucked up the crooked arm of an inlet, it was an incredibly remote relay station for the British Empire’s telegraph network, so remote a posting was it, with such solitude, that as the unfortunate station master approached the island round the final kink in the inlet, he was said to be “going round the bend”.
