DHOFAR DELIGHTS (11 days from £1,945 per person) (Ref. DHO)

Indicative cost including flights from the UK (2 people):

  • £1,945pp. Low season, standard hotels, self-driving.
  • £2,425pp. High season, superior hotels, self-driving (our most popular option).
  • £2,895pp. High season, superior hotels, guided.

Dhofar is the most southerly province of Oman and a place of fable and mystery. The frankincense trade flourished here, giving rise to once prosperous, now ruined ports and towns. Prophets bestrode the land leaving improbable footprints and the whole place is veiled in monsoon mists once a year. Combining some time in Dhofar with a trip round the key highlights of central Oman makes for a wonderful holiday.

This is just a suggested itinerary; please contact us so we can tailor the perfect holiday exclusively for you.

Day 1: Fly from the UK to Muscat, where you’ll be met and transferred to your Muscat hotel, chosen from our selected portfolio, for a stay of three nights.

Day 2: You have a private tour of the city, including the Sultan’s Palace, The Grand Mosque and Muttrah souq.

Day 3: Free to relax at the hotel.

Day 4: If you’re self-driving, your 4x4 will be delivered to the hotel today; otherwise you’ll be collected by your driver. Head north to the Batinah Plain to visit the forts of Rostaq and Nakhl before traversing the Hajar Mountains through the dramatic Wadi Bani Awf. Spend three nights in one of our preferred hotels in Nizwa / Jebel Shams region.

Day 5: Spend the day in the mountains, marvelling at Wadi Ghul, Oman’s “Grand Canyon”, visiting dramatically-perched mountain villages like Misfah and taking a trip underground at the Al-Hoota Cave.

Day 6: The focus today is on the imposing forts and towns of the interior. Try to be here on a Friday for the livestock auction at Nizwa souq, in the shadow of the vast fort, and head out to Jabreen fort, famous for its painted ceilings, stopping on the way to admire the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Bahla fort.

Day 7: Head back to Muscat Airport in time for a flight down to Salalah. You’ll either pick up a new saloon hire car, or be collected and taken to one of our recommended Dhofar hotels for a 4 night stay.

Day 8: Explore the city of Salalah today.

Day 9: Spend time outside the city today. If you’re being guided, you’ll visit Taqah and Mirbat, amongst other places; self-drivers can choose from a wide array of places to visit. Mughsayl beach, with its blowholes, is always a popular option.

Day 10: At leisure.

Day 11: Self-drivers drop their car at the airport today; otherwise you have a private transfer to the airport in time for your flight home.
